Known for bringing order to chaos, some say Fatima was born to manage a firm. She had a vision of creating a place to work where people who are passionate about helping others could do just that—help others—without the normal law firm bureaucracy that makes law firms a scary place for lawyers, staff, and clients alike.

Fatima will tell you that her interest in all things immigration didn’t come from her family’s Panamanian roots, but instead from her own experience as a foreign student in Spain with no money and no work permit. It was in that experience that Fatima learned just how much purpose is born through pain. Before venturing to law school, she got her start in immigration law as a Board of Immigration Appeals Representative.

Fatima is known for her smile and her fierce dedication to her clients.

Mariane Del Valle brings a strong foundation in legal practice and entrepreneurship to our immigration team. Born and raised in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, Mariane received a comprehensive education at La Milagrosa School before pursuing higher education at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez, where she earned degrees in Sociology and Psychology. Mariane then attended the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico’s law school in Ponce, passing the bar examination on the first attempt. After beginning her career at law firms in Puerto Rico, Mariane demonstrated the entrepreneurial spirit by opening her own practice in 2014. This decade of independent practice provided invaluable experience in client advocacy and legal strategy. In May 2024, Mariane relocated to Indiana, bringing this wealth of experience to serve our clients with dedication and expertise.

Dessalen is a dedicated attorney who discovered her passion for advocacy early in her career. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Public Affairs from Indiana University-Bloomington’s School of Public and Environmental Affairs before pursuing her J.D. at the Robert H. McKinney School of Law, where she graduated in 2019. During law school, she gained hands-on experience in the Criminal Law Clinic and worked as a certified graduate intern at the Marion County Public Defender’s Agency. Dessalen joined our team in 2021 and was sworn in that October. As a devoted mother of five, she understands the importance of family unity and brings this perspective to every case. When not advocating for clients, Dessalen enjoys reading, bowling, and spending quality time with her children.

Duke brings a unique perspective to immigration law, combining his scientific background with legal expertise to serve our clients. Originally from China, Duke earned his degree in medicinal chemistry and spent many years in the pharmaceutical industry before transitioning to law. He graduated from the Robert H. McKinney School of Law in 2013 and was admitted to the bar that same year. Since 2015, Duke has served as of counsel, where his analytical approach and cross-cultural understanding make him an invaluable advocate for clients navigating the immigration process.

Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Karla brings diverse legal experience and deep cultural understanding to our immigration practice. She earned both her B.A. and J.D. from the University of Puerto Rico and furthered her expertise with a Master’s in Family Law from the Universitat de Barcelona in Spain. Karla’s distinguished 15-year career in the Judicial Branch included serving as a Law Clerk for the Puerto Rico Appellate Court, being appointed Municipal Judge by the Governor, and working as a Legal Advisor to the Courts Administration Office. Now a Senior Attorney at the Law Firm of Fatima Johnson, she continues her lifelong commitment to public service and advocacy through immigration law. Karla prioritizes staying connected to her Puerto Rican roots through frequent visits to the island and treasures time traveling with her husband and three children. At home, she enjoys the company of their four beloved dogs.
